RV Winterizing Gear

If this is the first time you have winterized your RV make sure you have everything you need.

Here is the gear I recommend using.  I have included links to purchase these items on Amazon if you need them.

Antifreeze

I purchase my antifreeze locally at Walmart or Home Depot.

Blow-Out Adapter

This adapter lets you connect your air compressor to your RV's city water port.

Blow-Out Adapters come in 2 types, quick connect (like mine above) and schrader (tire) valve type.

Water Heater Socket

The drain plugs on RV water heaters come in 3 sizes.

Suburban 1-1/16"

Atwood 7/8" and 15/16" Combo Wrench

Anode Rod

Suburban water heaters use a combination drain plug and anode rod. It should last 3-5  years.  If 1/2 or more of the anode rod is gone you should replace it.

Winterizing Kits, Pumps and Hoses

Here are 3 options to get antifreeze into your RV.  If your RV has a water valve with a winterizing or sanitizing position, you only need a hose.

Winterizing Kit

Install this  between your pump and city water port to suck antifreeze into your RV's water lines.

Winterizing Kit

Hand Pump

Use this if you don't feel comfortable modifying your RV's plumbing.  This is the most labor intensive way to get antifreeze in your RV.

Winterizing Pump

Suction Hose

If you have a water selector valve with a winterize position, or you already have a winterizing kit installed.  You only need a hose.

If you can't find your's, you can:

  • cut an old garden hose
  • Make one with a male garden hose fitting and tubing
